Trunk release workin, but not right.

Hey, my trunk release button only works when I turn my car off. Dont know why it only does this. If you can help, I'd appreciate it. thank you.

Axle/Gears: 3.45, 3.27, 3.27

On an auto tranny equipped car, with the ignition on, the release works only when the gear selector is in P or N. It is tied in through the Neutral Safety Switch. On a manual tranny equipped car, with the ignition on, the parking brake must be engaged for the hatch release to work. In both instances it is a safety feature to prevent you from accidentally popping it while driving.
