Gauge software to work for a LCD screen??

i got an idea the other day that i wanted to know if it could work... i'm not sure if it would work ot not. but here is my idea i would liek to get a 8" LCD screen that have a pics of 3 Gauges on the screen that really work, like a trans temp , air/fuel mix, and oil temp all on the screen but have the Gauges really work. so i'm guessing that you would have to wire the sending units to some kind of borad that has software based on a chip and habe plug it into the LCD screen and have the system turn on when the key is on.

any ideas, has anyone ever seen this befor?? keep in mind that i won't want the system to be ran by a laptop. i want the system to be standalone.

It'd probably be easiest to have it run by laptop or a box in the back (I'm doing something like this on my 'bird... more on that later). With a laptop or box, all you'd need to do is write a program that accepts input signals from the sending units you're using.

You could build some sort of circuit for this, it's pretty easily done (think Knight Rider dash - electronics aren't that hard to build), but how you'd get that to display on an LCD screen is something that I don't know.

The idea I have is for a Knight Rider replica, I haven't decided if I want to do it to my 'bird or try to find another one. I plan to have major gadgets on this car, and it will be a HUGE electronic undertaking ... think rain sensing wipers, auto headlights, climate control, touch screen monitors (also hooked up to video switchers - in one input there'd be something like you're talking about, another would be a touch screen n2o controls, TV antenna with VCR/DVD on another, front and rear cameras on another... etc), pretty much all kinds of electronic stuff. It'd be tons of work and megabucks, but I think it'd be cool anyway.

Let us know if you explore this any further, I myself am very interested to find out how this goes!
