What year car do you have? Could be your VSS Buffer box because it sends the signal to you computer for the Lock-up of your converter and also it sends signal to your cruise control.....Just an idea maybe someone else has something to say about it....

Does the speedo work? Tg's used a mechanical and electronic speedo's. With a mechanical cable driven speedo the cable drives the speedo as well as a little Hall generator in the speedo head. Pulses are sent to the VSS buffer module from the Hall unit and then to the ECM for control of TCC, EGR and cruise. Electronic speedo's are basically the same, however at the trans there is a Hall unit in place of the cable drive assy and the pulses are sent to the VSS buffer for the electronic speedo, TCC, EGR and cruise. Normally without a VSS signal the SES light will come on after about 10 min of driving over 35 mph or so.

I beleave that your buffer should be the same part number as the one in the pick if so you can get one out of a junk yard from a mid 80's olds Delta 88 for shure don't know about any other models but that is the one I use for my 91 gauge cluster and it works great.

The green wire is 4000ppm that lead goes to you speedo the red wire goes to you cruise the brown goes to you computer for the lock-up and other things both red and brown are 2000ppm

while it does seem unlikely, one of the buffer outputs could have failed. the junkyards will probably just about give them away given the number of people that actually buy them, and it's only 5 minutes worth of work to try, so i say go for it.

(also, your 89 will have an electonically driven speedometer)
