headlight motor is hot

ok on 82 firebird headlight motors, driver side one has aluminum manual **** and the motor gets hot pretty quick when lights are turned on, pass side motor has a black plastic ****, neither headlight pops up, both relays intact by motors, why do my headlight ***** not match and why is driver side motors getting hot ? headlights do work though, just wont come up

Never heard of the motor getting hot before. Also never heard of an aluminum ****. Maybe it gets hot cause of excessive current draw and becuase the **** is metal.

As for not goin up: There are 3 relays. The 2 you already have and one on the passenger side radiator baffle. This relay is the Headlight Motor Isolation relay. It is a dealer only part. It is not interchangable with the other relays. It may be bad or missing. Replace it if neceessary. It runs about $25. The other 2 relays may also be bad. They are available at pepboys or autozone or places like that. They run about $15 each. Just bring one in and show them. I think GP Sorenson makes them. PN MR86 I think, not sure though.
Check the red/white power wires for +12 volts. Power must be there for them to work.

Let me know what you find.

cool thanks, good info, are the wires always hot to the relay(s) when lights are turned on ? if so then to which relays ?

cant believe hot motor has never happened to anyone on this forum, and no one here has seen aluminum gray colored **** on an 82 ???

The red wires are always hot. They run to the motor relays located on the inner fender wall on each side. The wires are either red or red with a white stripe. Power is supplied to them by fusible links.

cool thanks, i found out about the aluminum **** thing, yeah.

all the motors are aluminum ****, the black plastic ***** you all see on oyur motors are just athin plastic cover they coem right off, aluminum metal four hole **** underneath that !

someone removed one of mine and its just gone, thats all

odd how no one ever knew that, no one has ever removed one ?
im baffled.
