Considering you have a post just below relating to your headlight motors.. you'd think I would have figured that out huh ?
82-4 and 85-6 all used the 3 relay system. I don't remember, but, I think there was a small revision to the housing/motor in 85-6. I don't know what it was though
87-up changed completely and started using a single headlight relay module that controlled both motors and in mounted on the firewall.
edit.. I just remembered this site. It has some good information about the lights (even though it's on a fiero.. they used the same motors)

I believe '82-'83 motors used 4 wires, then in '84 they switched to 3. They make no mention of the '82-'83 motors on the Fiero site cause there were no Fieros till '84.

Yes, for the most part all '82-'86 motors are the same. With the exception that the number of wires may be different. That can probably be fixed by splicing wires into each other.
Just so you know: I heard the 4 wire thing from somewhere on these boards or from some retailer when I was going to purchase a new headlight motor for my car. I vaguely remember seeing a pic of a 4 wire unit or reading about it somewhere.
I have yet to see a '82 or '83 Firebird or Trans Am. So I believe there are 4 wires, but that may be wrong.
Anybody care to clarify this for me? I'd like to know for sure.

its 3 on early ones and 2 on later ones, no such thing as four wire motors
what i dont understand is why my driver side motor third wire is dark blue and someone spliced white wire to it, and pass side motor is white wire correct no splicing

One of your headlight motors was probably swapped for a fiero motor which have different plugs but are otherwise direct replacements I should know I put firebird motors on my fiero when I had it.

the relay plug is same one the blue wire motor, but just has the separate third wire being blue,
so firebird motors third wire is white and fiero are blue, right ?
these two motors are completely identical in evetry way i can see except are reversed as far as output shaft placement, event he silver stickers with partnumbers are in same place and everything on both motors.
thanks

Fast.. I can't much help you with the motor identity due to not owning a 'bird in your year range but, I can somewhat help you with wiring identity. Here's a general diagram of how your car "should" be wired (am I nice or what ...

Is there an easy way to wire up 3-wire headlight motors to a 2-wire control box / harness? Maybe a couple diodes or something?
