Volt Guage/ Fuel Guage

Ok, i did a little search, and from what i can see, the volt guage in our cars is notoriously innacurate. Mine was reading low, (first hash mark above 8) but i tested the voltage at the battery and at the alt, and i was getting at least 14. I'm guessing that means my guage is messed up. My question is, can you just pop out the old guage and put in a new one? Or would it be more of a wireing problem? Any ideas where to start would be appriciated.

Also, my fuel guage is a little weird. I know that when you move forward, the fluid likes to push to the back of the tank, and vise versa for when you stop, but my guage gains/loses almost a quater of a tank between going and stopping. Would this be a fuel sensor issue? The reason i'm wondering is with the volt guage acting weird, i'm wondering if its an all around guage problem. Is there a way to test the fuel sensor?

Ok, enough problems for tonight. Thanks for any help ahead of time.

Fuel guage--mine does it too. Not as much when full, but when near quarter tank it will read empty on a stop. I think its normal for our cars.

eh, mine does it when i'm at 3/4-half tank, so i'm not sure if its normal for your guage to jump to full when accelerating, then 1/4 when your braking. I guess i'm going to have to crack the dash open and start checking wires.

As long as the fuel guage shows empty when the tank is running low and full when the tank is full, it's just fine. Like you said, the fuel sloshes around quite a bit. Check the voltage at the guage. If the voltage is 14 at the guage, but the guage reads something different, the guage is bad. If you have low voltage at the guage, check the wiring.
