A Fuse Question
A Fuse Question
When I bought my camaro it was missing some fuses, and running like crap so I threw some fuses in (the correct amps) and everything has been happy. I recently went to a junkyard and noticed their camaros use the metal fuses instead of the standard plastic ones I was using. Anyway, I am using metal ones now, but I basically want to know one thing...
What is the difference? Can someone explain what the metal fuses are?

I don't know what the metal fuses are really meant for but I do know that your supposed to use the plastic fuses. Our cars only use 2 metal fuses and I believe for the power window and stop hazard. I guess because its of a higher amperage that they used the metal.
yes....actually they are circuit breakers....they are used for power window so that if you hold the button down too long instead of a fuse blowing...it just shuts the circuit off ....and turns it back on when it has cooled down...usually happens quite quickly...
and the hazards do use it too yes....but its a different design of breaker
point is
use fuses because if you develop a wiring problem it will blow...and not just flash on and off and cause big problems

To Anthology83: Should I use a circuit breaker instead of a fuse for my installation of 4th gen power seats? I dont have the wiring loom and thought of running a power wire and ground wire to the seats. Thanks.
where are you getting the power source from? like..are you tapping right into the fuse block?
just curious....that has no real relavence to your question
yeah...i'd use a circuit breaker if i were you...if nothing else....at least as a temp. so if you made a slight wiring mistake you won't go through a whole bunch of fuses trying to figure it out...you'll just notice the breaker clicking on and off....and its a reaaaally good idea if you don't know what amp fuse was originally used on that circuit...so lets say you put a 20 amp fuse in ...what if that particular motor draw 30? ...there goes the fuse
or if it only draws 10 amps and you put a 20 in....and you make a slight wiring mistake...the wires will heat up hotter then they are suppose to and melt..because the fuse thinks its normal for that 20 amps to be running
so a circuit breaker would be good to start off with....expecially like..and again i'm saying if you don't know what amperage its suppose to be.....a lower amp cut off
i hope i made sense...i wrote this just before going to bed...
so ask any questions you have

Sorry not to have responded right away. My time zone is backwards and I had to go off to work(being on the other side of the world). I hadnt decided where to get the hot lead from. What would you suggest? I dont know how much the seats will pull until I get them in a few days. Any help with that? Thanks.
