The Tach in my 1990 Camaro 305 TBI isnt working.It lays on the 7 side all the way at the bottom. But it moves while youre starting the car it flips over to the other side. Ive checked all under the hood and its fine there so it must be in the dash somewhere. Could it be ground out in the dash somewhere. I have the next 3 days off work so I can take apart the dash is if need be. Is there any common problems I should be aware of.

 

Yes, the tach's themselves are usually the problem.

 

Then how can it be fixed?

 

About $95 to a company to fix it.

 

My tach was around 200 rpm's off at Idle and close to 3500rpms off at WOT... to put it simply the tach's in 3rd gen's are complete junk... Your best bet is buy a aftermarket tach for the dash/a pillar/steering colum or do like I did and ditch the original guages for dakota digitals
