Tach Flutter

My tach suddenly began to flutter and doesn't hold a steady reading. It jumps up and drops, repeats the cycle constantly. Its as if the needle is worn out and slipping around the pin. Anyone seen this...whats the fix?

Have you checked the connections at the distributor?
