Temp Gauge help!

Well my Camaro had a water temp gauge and a voltometer when I bought it and neither ever worked(cable's werent connected at all when I took a good look), Anyways it bugs me and I need the temp gauge fuctioning its very important.
Let me tell you about it the temp gauge had the bulb which I don't care so I took it out and tossed it and those seemed to be the only cable's I could visibly see where connected and then the temp gauge has two polars sticking out it has the grooves for nuts but the problem is that there not labeled I mean they have to be the + and - terminals but there exactly the same and not labeled in any manner whatsoever, as for the sender wire there is a nice big cable that is alone that is connected and for some reason no matter what I do I can't take it out it's wierd its like hold in with a nut but without the nut it still doesnt come out. I found the sender itself and its not at the place I expected(the driver side of the cyclinder head) it is actually on top of the intake next to the thermostate well anyways its all solid and nice there(It's placed with teflon but I doubt it is porbably not letting the sender ground itself). Guys I dont know how to fix it

Im thinking of boiling some water and taking out the sender and submerging it in the boiling water and place the + and - on each polar to see if it will start functioning.

Any tips or new insight is what I need :hail:

I say get a mechanical guage. You can buy one at wal-mart for like 10.00.all you have to do is mount the guage somewhere in your car and run this wire connected to the guage through the fire wall. at the end of the wire is a metal rod and a fitting.just take the old temp sensor out and put the metal rod in the hole and screw it in with the fitting I did it in like 10 minutes its easy and works well.the only electrical stuff is the wires for the light but I didnt hook that up so your on your own there.good luck
