Classic Industries has them anywhere from $90 (70 amp) to $160 (140 amp)

Not exactly cheap. Why dont you just goto a local scrap and have a peak. I don't know why you would need to buy one new. Especially if you can just get a cheapo to last you awhile until you get some more funds.

Another thing to keep in mind I noticed in your sig you have subs.

*roughly speaking* For every 100W on ur amp, you need 10 amps on ur Alt.

Just another thing to keep in mind. Might wanna keep that stereo turned down for a bit

I got mine from autozone a couple of years ago for I think $90.00.
Its 108 Amp Alt with a lifetime warranty on it. If it goes out again i'll just take it back and get another. My car is also an 86 with TPI.

cheapest way is to rebuild it your self. not very hard to do a quick rebuild to save some cash get a new regualtor and set of brushes from your local auto parts store. if you look in the tech articles on polishing there is one on polishing an alt and it shows how to disassemble and reassemble. peice of cake to do.
