damn break lights!!!!and guages URRRR

ok, first i'll talk bout my guages, for about 6 months now my guages will blow fuses all the time, left and right, like when i have it started awhile, and just out of no where it blows and all my guages quit, which really makes me mad cause i have no clue what to check, does anyone out there no what to check? im using a 30 amp fuse on that also, so does anyone know anything bout that?? help asap, ok now to the break lights which REALLY ticks me off, ok i go and get my car inspected today and it failed , ok, the lower left and right ball joints were toast, so i had them replace that so it would pass because my tags were do today, well they banged around gettin them off, and got them back on and passed it,t hen they noticed the break lights werent working after they done that, but that passed it anyways and told me to figure out whats wrong with them, ok, i know they had to shake something lose or F*CK something up and it ticks me up, where would the first place be to look? i have NO i mean NO clue about electrical on my car, or any car, so please any help asap, cause i got pulled over for this tonite so i need it fixed asap, sorry this is so long, im just frustrated with this, thanks a lot

I had a problem with the large wire loom under my dash board rubbing on the brake pedal bracket. Under the dash.

It took me over two weeks to figure out what it was because I had just done some work on the front end of my car (I had made some ram air ducts, which went in near the wiring loom). I thought for sure that my problem was up near the front, but as I say, it was not. Another reason it took me so long to find the short is because my running lights and gage lights would only short out when I stepped on the brakes. That took me a long time to find out.

I would at least check the wire looms under the dash where they go into and come out of under the fuse panel. To keep from blowing fuses, I put the red and black leads of a volt Ohm meter on each leg of the fuse slot in question and kept an eye on the amps when moving the wires.

Give more information:
Is this a constant problem? Or does it occur irregularly?
Is it only the brake lights and the gauges?

Waiting to hear...

OK-
All's I can tell you is what I'd do. Take the panel off underneath the drivers side dash, giving you full access to all the wires looms under the dash.
Do a visual inspection.
If nothing is found, I'd hook up a VOM to the fuse panel as mentioned in my previous message (hook leads to the fuse receptor where the fuse keeps blowing). I measured amps. Keep an eye on the meter when you turn the key on.
Then try moving the loom around a bit. See if moving the loom creates any change in measured amps.
Keep in mind your VOM may not have a fuse in it for protection. Only turn the key on for very brief periods. Just enough to see if measures above 15 or 20 amps. The exact amperage isn't of huge importance. I just used this method to save fuses.

Also- I am not clear on this: Are both your brakes AND gauge light fuses blowing constantly?

I won't lie to you- it is very tough to track this stuff down. I spent right around 4 hours laying upside down on my front seat with my head down near the brake/clutch/gas pedals diagnosing and repairing the problem.

sounds like you have a short. first off put in the recommended fuse rating. now look for any problems in the wire harness going to your gauge lights, also check the cd player and dome light they all are on the same circuit. I think your gauges have their own fuse so check that circuit too. its most likely a wire shorting on something or it could be internal on your gauge cluster.

Wow, this is the EXACT same problem I have. I keep blowing the Guage fuse. This is a recent problem that just started. New fuse, turn the key, and pop goes the fuse. I fear putting anything higher in there because I don't want to destroy the gauge cluster.

Does ANYONE have the wiring diagrams for the fuse block? I have no idea what to check and I really can't drive the car with no gauges at all.

Also, possibly related. After the transmission install I lost the TCC lock up. I'm pretty sure its not locking up, but without the gauges its hard to tell.
