94ish cavalier, driver side high beam does not work, light bulb is fine, there is possitive and negative when testing at the high beam connecter all the time, just as there is on the passenger side. When the car is off there is power at the lights but it slightly goes up only on the side that works when you turn the lights on, the side that dont work the power stays the same. I would think that the switch would be bad... except the switch should controll the lights togather, not independantly??? All the grounds in the car have been redone. Any help would be apreciated, thanks in advance.

Okay, first, there are two filaments in each bulb for the headlights, since the Cavalier uses a single headlamp for each side and to make the bright lights turn on, the switch energizes the second filament. Second, when you talked about the "power", I'm assuming you were talking about the voltage at the socket. I believe that the '94 is the same as the '93 I drive regularly, so I'm going to say that the capsule is the 9004 model, which has four terminals, two on each side of the wiring end of the ceramic body of the lamp. One side, I believe, is for the low beam filament, and the other is for the high beam. Which is which, I don't know because the only problem I've had is with a filament dying on me. I'll go out and take a look tomorrow so I can give a little more info, but I'm sure that you should replace the capsule first to see if it's a dead filament in there that is the problem.

Initially I didn't plan on locking this, but since the Cav uses such a different headlight setup, other than a potential ground issue, none of this information is relevant for thirdgen troubleshooters, so on goes the lock.
