Speedo is of...how do i fix it?

I own a 92' RS Camaro and i replaced the stock rearend with a 96' discbrake .342 one with posi. I also stepped up and put 17 inch rims and tires on my car. My speedo is of by about 15 miles an hour but, ive been told that the speedo cable that runs to my transmission does not have a gear that you can change...that I have to do it by computer or have my computer reprogramed. Is this true? and can anyone refer me to somewhere who can do it. Im lost fellas and its racking up miles on my car quick. Id appreciate the help!

your 92 doesn't have a speedo cable. It's got a VSS on the trans that sends an electrical signal to the ECM and speedo.

If you changed gears, you need the proper drive & driven gears for the VSS. The Drive gear is on the output shaft of the transmission, and the driven gear goes on the end of the VSS. They are cheap, but for 3.42s the drive gear is getting hard to find. Your best resource for this is probably v6 cars in the junk yard... most of them are 3.42 cars.

Your wheel size has absolutely nothing to do with anything as long as you got the right tire size.
