Digital dash bulbs

I did a search, couldn't really get the answers I need.

88 GTA with digital dash. Some of the digits do not light up. An "8" will look like a "0" because the middle bar doesn't light. A "7" will look like a "1". Things like that.

The question is, can this be repaired by replacing bulbs in the cluster. Do the bulbs help to backlight the guages to make the number visible or is each digit actually made of 7 little bulbs shaped like a square 8? Can this be fixed or do I need a new cluster?

Thanks

Kevin

all of the numbers are part of the LCD display. The back-lighting is just the common 194 bulbs. If the whole section of the cluster goes dark, that's the 194s. For specific segments of hte display, you're basically SOL unless you replace the whole piece.

For what used dash clusters cost on ebay, I wouldn't bother getting yours repaired. Buy another cluster and replace the segments that need to be replaced.
