Choke light..help

Hey.

Since Ive had my car. Since about last february my choke light has constantly been on except for like a month ago it turned off for a week or two. But its back on. Someone I know said it could be something with the alternator? He said unhook the red cable while its running and itll tell alot..I did that. And the car still runs...Does that mean its not the alternator???Another friend of mine also checked the choke and he said its fine...Im gonna take my car to the shop next weekend to have it checked out.

Wondering if you guys have any ideas? Maybe I could find out how to just turn that damn light off. My car starts up fine. Im not really worried but Im selling it soon. So....

Nate

It might be the electric choke relay, it's either stuck or fried. The relay has three wires coming from it;

Brown - Leading to the C-H fuse on the fusebox. Which splits, and leads to the battery (hot at all times)...

Red - To the alternator...

Light Blue - This wire splits into two, and one part leads to the electric choke, while the other turns from light blue, to pink/blue, and leads to the electric choke warning light indicator.....

What size fuse are you using? If it burns out, that means there's overload somewhere....

Also not a good idea to pull off the red wire from the alt, the alt most times is damaged by haveing a voltage spike for a second or 2 it takes to realize the load was removed.

hey guys Im taking my car in on monday to have it checked out. Im having the choke, timing, and a spark plug looked at. Hopefully it shouldnt cost too much. The mechanic Im going to is a good guy.

When I went to speedy to get an estimate for plug wires and plugs+fuel pump they told me 400.00 LOL I put that thing in myself. And was no where near worth 400.00 to put in a few wires and a fuel pump. LOL

I would just ask a friend to help me out with the plug. But while Im getting the choke looked at I mine as well get the plug done too. Im thinking its fried cuz the wire fried on the manifold a bit ago. Im also getting weird idle speed...Like not even wanting to stay started when I first start it up when its cold and not wanting to go under 1500 or 1200 when its warm even. I used to idle pretty low when I was running right....

So, where exactly is this Choke Relay located? My altinator, battery and all my fuses are fine. I have been going all through these posts and still can't seem to get my choke to work or the light to go away. It started after I installed headers.

The choke relay is on the right fender by the battery.

Re: Choke light..help

Try with some electronic cleaning spray. I sprayed my relay with it and cleaned it and now my choke warning symbol is gone.

Excuse my bad english
