car starts by itself (starter wiring problem)

i bought a beater camaro, an 86 sport coupe w/ an lg4. when i got the car, a new starter was put in, but the wires weren't attached to the cellenoid yet. the previous owner forgot where the wires went, couldn't figure it out, so i got the car for 100 dollars. anyways, the problem is when i connect the starter the same way my 85 is hooked up, the car starts on its own when i connect the battery. there is also an additional wire by the starter that i think is from an old alarm system that i havent connected yet. overall the wiring in the car is a bit of a mess from added accessories. could a short somewhere be causing this? would there be any easy way to rewire any potentially bad wiring?

Chevy starter wiring is simple. Big post on the 'noid connects to the battery and any fusible links, little post (usually marked "S") runs to the start position on the ignition switch.

The wire on the little post should be purple.

LOL, i thought my car was the only one that would start itself. Onetime i was in the garage looking for a hammer and my car just started cranking over. My friend freaked out and asked if i had left my keys in the car. Nope, they were still in my pocket. Never could figure why it did that. Problem went away after the starter died on me during prom, replaced the starter next day. That was the only time i've ever thought about selling my car, lol.

so only the positive cable goes on the big post? right now i think i have it where the pos. cable is on the big post, as well as a pair of wires that are together(fusible links?). then there is a black wire with a red stripe on the small post. this is the way i saw it on my 85, also...

on the smaller wires that you have going to the big post, is there a big terminal on them? Are they really flexable? if yes on both then thats the right spot for them.

Does the car have a remote starter?

ok, then it sounds like those are in the right spot. it may have had a remote starter, and that could be the wire thats hangin disconnected right now. if it is a remote starter wire, what should i do with it? could it be causing the problem? the old alarm system and/or remote starter in the car isn't operable now and i dont plan on making it so.
