Gallon fuel gauge.

How do them newer cars know how many gallons is in the tank??? I kind of assume it some sort of [dare I say] electrical thingy that know how much fuel is in the tank by some strange means???

I kinda wonder how it works and if maybe it could be adapted into our cars. Would need the lcd pod off the headliner maybe and the tank parts but I guess it would have to work pretty simple if it was gonna work out.

It works just like the regular fractional gauge, except it's programmed to know that 1/2 tank = x gallons and full=y gallons etc.
