Push power window switch....car goes dead??

Ok today when I got in my car I went to put the drivers side window down and when I push the switch it causes a big power drain or surge that shuts the car off. The window doesnt move and the battery gague and rpms surge down when I hit the switch. If I do it when the car is just at idle then the car just shuts off.

I dont really know what it is. I have had a window motor break before but that just made the window slow down to a stop. This is different. There is such a power drain when I hit the switch I dont know if the switch is fried or if there is a short in the window motor?

Please help me....I live in Tampa and its warm down here

Also when I push the button up nothing happens, its only when I try to push it down.

Someone has to have some ideas. I need to get this fixed asap.

start checking stuff i dunno. get a wiring diagram, check the switch, motor, etc. make sure the window gear isnt binding. check your grounds and fusible links as well while your at it.
