Bench Testing a Knock Sensor

I recently found the old knock sensor I replaced in my car, although I never knew whether or not it was malfunctioning or not, I was just throwing parts at the problem. Anyways, I was wondering whether there was any way to test the sensor out of the car. I read about how the sensor works but could not figure out how to test it. Is it possible to do with a car battery and analog multimeter? If it is, could anybody tell me how it all hooks up?
Thanks
