high beam switch

Help!! What would be the easiest, and best way to change out a highbeam headlight switch, I know the steering column has to come apart, and I don't have the money for a shop. Thanks

Are you sure the rod just didn't come out of the pocket? If it is, put it back in and adjust the switch. But if that's not the problem....

The steering column dosn't have to come apart to replace it. You need to take the hush panel off, and the panel right below the steering column, Then loosen the two 13 mm nuts that hold the column to the dash and drop the column. The high beam switch is on the same bracket as the ignition switch. It is held on by two, i beleive, 1/4" screws. Just unplug the switch, and remove the two screws and take the switch out. Make sure the rod dosn't come down the column too much. Just screw the new switch in and put the rod in it's place and adjust it so it clicks when you pull on the turn signal lever. Plug it in, test it out, then put the column back up. Finally put the hush panels back on.

Use masking tape to tape the rod to the column before removing the switch, this will prevent the rod from falling out.

I took down the steering column today, the rod is in the switch, and the switch works fine. I put a small piece of rubber on the rod end to make better contact with the switch, and it works great. Thanks for all of your help.

Adjusting the switch towards the steering wheel would of produced the same results.
