Gauge Bulbs

okso i need new gauge lights and my manual has a chart
interior illumination | Bulb no. | quantity | candle power
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
instrument cluster -- std | 161/194 | 7/4 | 1/2
-- gauges | 161/194 | 6/4 | 1/2
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
does this mean that i need 13 161 bulbs and 8 194 bulbs and do the 194's go in where the idiot lights are or where do they go this seems like an awful lot of bulbs that i have to put in

the reason i ask is because ever since i replaced the bulbs with some random ones i found in my center consol the fuse has been blowing out alot so i am thinking i put the wrong bulbs in and i dont remember there being that many maby ten tops and if this is the case then where do the 4 194's go cause i am thinking that --std and -- gauge are for different gauge types

You can use #194 bulbs in place of #161 bulbs. The 161/194 means you can use either bulb. I took all the #161 bulbs out of my instrument cluster and replaced them with #194. They are also a lot cheaper and much brighter than the #161's. There should be roughly eighteen bulbs in your cluster.

so why under quantity does it say 6/4 as in 6 161's and 4 194's and wouldnt drawing more power thorugh cause the fuse to blow and also is your number of 18 including the idiot lights (ie. check engine, brake, seat belt light, ect...) and the one for the transmission indicator or just for the gauge lights i had green tinted lights in there when i bought it and found a bunch of white lights that looked the same as the green ones maby a little bigger and the fuse kept blowing i had to put in a 35 amp fuse to stop this and shortly after my alternator went then i got a junkyard alt and a month later after a very long night drive (probly 1 and a half to 2 hours the alt went the next day) i really need some help here as i want to get the damn thing on the road again

There is no difference in the power drawn by the #194's and The #161. GM put #161's in there originally. Yes, I included the check engine, brake, seatbelt, and shift light. If you have an area on your idiot panel that does't apply to your car, then leave that bulb out. The shift light and choke light don't apply to mine so I left the bulbs out. The bulb in the console for my shifter is a #194 and the fuse for your instrument lights is only supposed to be 5 amps.
