Clear Lighted Rs Emblems All Done!!

I think this is the place to post this. I posted these before but I made some changes to make them better and got them mounted. Going on sugesstions from this fourum I changed the side ones from red to yellow to be used as turn signals. The rear one I still haven't decided if I should hook it to the brake or just us it as a side or parking marker..Suggestions???
Anyhooo I have a ton more pics but no place to host them so I can only show these two I put in readers rides. I started off wanting to blend the clear aftermarket side markers better and this really pulled it off. Total cost was about $45 most of the cost was the LED's.

wow.. thats neat.

heh, howd you do that? where did you get clear emblems from?

the only thing i would change on the rear is make the RS letters black...

that way they stand out more... its kinda hard to read when they're white. (could just be the picture though)

btw, in every post you make, theres a place just below where you type in called Attach file.

click the browse button and select your file... as long as the picture is smaller then 102500 bytes, it will attach it to your post.

if its larger then that, you should either resize it, or reduce the quality setting(in otherwords, compress it more).. then it will work.

The emblems them selves are made out of 1/4" plex that I got a sheet of at Home Depot and cut out and sanded smooth. I then used chrome stickers that are actually 4th gen replicas on top. For the rear one I wanted to try for a reverse effect so i put the sticker on painted white over it and pulled the sticker off. You can't even see the little bow tie on the right side of the emblem, I may try and tirm it off in black. Let me try and attach a pic of the emblem by it's self with the led holes...

very cool.

what did you use to cut and bevel the edge of the clear plexi without leaving scratch marks?

or did you have marks and get them out with fine sandpaper?

I used a hacksaw to cut out the shape, sanded with 220,400, 600 paper then hand rubbed 1500 buffing compound for a few minutes the edges turned out crystal clear.

Yes I used a tube of silcone fish tank sealer it is suposed to be very strong, plus it has a nice cut to size tube to apply with. I just sealed the edges and the mounting screw holes where the rocker attaches to make sure no dirt gets in.

One important note the silicone reflects the light very well and will light up, if you look at the Right hand lower and upper corners of the yellow marker closly you can see where the silicone pushed in and actually lights up. So either make sure you bead around the emablem are even or silocne the whole thing and work any air bubbles out so the whole marker lights up.

I originally had red in the side markers, just because I had red LED's left over from another prodject when I thought of doing this. I took the sugestions of a few poeple on this board and went with yellow just to make it a functional blinker. You could use any color LED you wanted, just depends on what look you are going for.

VERY unique! A job well done. I think if the RS showed light rather than light coming around the letters it'd be easier to read. Either way, very cool!

I had the rs showing light on the rear emblem but the picture I posted is to far away and doesn't show it very clearly. If I had used a darker color other than white it would have showed up a lot better.

I am putting together some directions (and what not to do's) and pictures. The pics I took last night didn't turn out so I will try for Monday to have it all together.

Hey all I finished the directions and some pictures. I was just waiting for the sicker supplier where I got mine form to confirm that are willing to make IROC and firebird stickers also as mine is an RS. I did it all on a word document, zipped it and emailed it to all that asked. Due to the pictures the file is rather large. Maybe we could add this to the tech section? I have no skills for adding this kind of thing in web format.

I have a suggestion. If you frost the rear of the acrylic by sand blasting it you wouldn't see the car color as much through the lens.
