MSD coil install problems

I need help. Anyone got pics of where their coil bracket is on the engine? I have an 85 Z28 and I am trying to install an external MSD GM blaster coil. I bought a coil bracket from a 91 Z28 but dont have a clue how this coil fits on the bracket and where it goes on the engine. It appears to have openings for the intake bolts...Still trying to finish this HSR install thats why I had to buy the bracket. Switching from large cap HEI to small cap HEI with external coil. Thanks in advance for your help. Its an 8226 coil.

No but thanks for the effort. Mine is a dual connector coil. It is square not round. I want to hook it to the stock bracket I bought for a 91 Z28 and mount it on my 85 Z28.

Car: Camaro of course
Ok I had the same thing back when I had the TBI and I did the same mod. Last I recall that MSD coil came with some screws, take the old coil off the car (2 bolts I think). Put the coil with the bracket on it in a vice. Drill the rivets out. Once you get those out it should come free. Now just screw the new coil on the bracket w/ the supplied screws and mount it back. I got the coil w/ some MSD wires; nice mod to do, the Camaros seem to respond well to ignition mods.

Maybe I'm not communicating this well enough. I didnt have an external coil before. Mine was built into my large cap HEI. My entire ignition system now is MSD. 8366 dist, 8226 coil and 8876 harness with Digital 6 box. I need pics of someones installed stock coil showing the bracket. I am setting this up without any previous knowledge of where it goes. Thats why i bought the 91 bracket for my MSD coil. However I cannot figure out how to mount it with the coil. It appears from the holes that it ataches to the manifold but I am not sure I can do that cuz the HSR intake has a rib between bolts where I think it should go. Any help and pics would be nice as I need this done asap. Thanks.

I have some pics, but I cant figure out how to get them on the post. My coil mounts to the base next to the distributor with 2 torx fasteners.

Hmmm...Thanks. Can anyone help him with his pic? Maybe its too big eh? Describing where yours is doesnt really help as I have never had an external coil on my car before. I did buyu a 91 Camaro coil bracket but even looking at it I dont see how the coil was attached.

I had a similar problem with my vortec heads not accepting the GM dual plug coil mounts...so, I just went ahead and secured it to the firewall, specifically the flat area directly next to the passenger-side windshield wiper assembly. If you do go that route, make sure not to through the heater core - what a mess that would be!

The bracket bolts to the engine using the two rear most bolts on the passangers side of the intake manifold. Here's a picture of mine, although they'r on vortec heads, i put it on in the same manor, just had to elongate the holes and do some bending.

I know it bolts to the intake but I cant fit it in there. No room. I couldnt figure out how it attached to the bracket itself. I will have to fab a different one. Right now its hanging horizontally from the upper lip where the wiper stuff is by the firewall. Have to fix it so it stands up straight. Thanks again for all your help guys!

I had to really bend my bracket a lot in order to get it to clear the valve covers and other junk back there. The coil attaches to the bracket with two small bolts that go through it, then that bracket attaches to the coil bracket that goes to the intake. Maybe your missing a part?

I may be but I am using aftermarket MSD coil. I dont see any holes on the coil that match up to the bracket. Also, this is the first time using an external coil for me. I had a large cap HEI with built in coil. Now I am using small cap, external coil. I bought the bracket from GM. If I bent it up it might fit. I'll check.
