Purpose of this is??
What is this? I tried tracing it down in my Chiltons manual, but to no avail. It has three wires heading out from it to in behind the far left side of the passenger firewall. The wires are colored white, maybe grey, white, again possibly grey, with a red stripe, and a red (I believe) wire.
Thanks, Bryan

Is there a nipple on the bottom of it for a vacuum line?

If it is an 84 Z28 like he has posted in his sig., I doubt that its a MAP sensor. From the location and looks of it, that bracket looks like the one that the ignition coil would mount too if it had one and under that would be the EGR solenoid which would have two openings for vacuum lines and a nipple. Just a thought.

Weren't those the barometric sensors on the lg4's ?
Not sure of it's absolute function but, I know just looking at an lg4 the wrong way makes them run rough and rich.
Timing chain slack (80k+ miles) makes a huge differnce in idle quality (at least it did on my old camaro...).

The car is an '84 with the l69 (305HO). The wires leading it are a white possibly grey, another white maybe grey with a red stripe and a black wire. It also has a vacuum nipple on the bottom.

Deadbirds is right, I have one on my L69. It is the barometric sensor. Ill check but i dont think that is a vac nipple I belive it is a port to check the barometric pressure of air
