A/C pressure switch turns on fans?

A/C pressure switch turns on fans?
I have no a/c stuff at all on the trans am anymore (non-a/c heater box) and was wondering --
there is a set of wires that connected to an a/c hard line going from the old heater box to the condenser along the top of the frame next to the pass. fenderwell. the wires are black and grey.
I am assuming this was a pressure switch and it was used to either cycle the compressor or turn on the fans.
this seems like a nice factory way to manually turn on the fans without having to mess with the relays.
does anyone have any idea what I am talking about? or are my descriptive powers that bad.
