Clutch switch question

I just completed my auto -> T5 swap on my 87 camaro and have a question on my clutch switch.

I am not sure how the switch on the clutch pedal is supposed to work. I connected the 2 purple and yellow wires butthe car would not start. I then jumpered the two wires together and the car started. I noticed there is another place for a connection on the switch but do not know if anything is supposed to be there.
Can anyone help?

The switch should read closed when the clutch is pressed in.

I know how the switch is supposed to work but I put an ohm meter on it and the resistance did not change. It did the same thing on the 2 switches I have.

Does this mean the switch is bad?

Sounds like it needs adjusting so the switch is made when the pedal is pushed to the floor.
Incidentally, the other switch is for if you have cruise control with the stick...that way it cuts off the cruise when you hit the clutch (same as for the brake).
