Power Antenna Question
Okay. I replaced my power antenna last summer with a new unit, and it worked fine until this winter. Now when I shut the radio off, it doesn't go down. Yet when I push it down by hand, and then turn the radio on, it powers up. Any ideas?
I recently replaced the relay as well...no help.

There is a long nylon strap attached to the end of the antenna with teeth on it that the gear of the motor drives up/down. It sounds as if yours has snapped that nylon strap. I'm surprised it broke so quickly. Was the antenna frozen? Can you hear the motor running? If so, then it is bad news. If the motor doesn't run, then look for a loose wire of the fuse. My owners manual shows the fuse is common to the cigarette lighter, PDL's and hatch solenoid release.

Hey lonnie, I know what you're talking about, but thats not it. Thats what happened to my first antenna and thats why I put the new one in.
The nylon cord must be fine because the antenna goes up when I turn the radio on. It just wont go down when I turn it off. I have to manually push it down. The fuse and relay are fine, so I dont know what it could be.

It should be cleaned by wiping it with light machine oil and then cycled through several times. This not only cleans it but lubricates it as well.

It sounds as if there is a reversing switch on the antenna that isn't being tripped to retract it.
