First unhook a battery cable when you park the car.
If it starts OK after sitting with a cable un-hooked, the battery is good, you've got a slow drain.
Remove one of the battery cables and connect a 12 volt "test light" between the battery and dis-connected cable. Light will be ON of something is draining current from the battery. Make sure everything it turned off, including the interior lamps (close the doors), then pull one fuse at a time. If pulling a fuse makes the test light go dim, then you've found which circut is draining your battery.
Do this with a fresh charged battery.
Get back to us with this info, we will tell you what to check next.

Yes they do, but not enough current to drain the battery in less then a few months. Also not enough to light a 12 volt light bulb.
Also check the Alt, feel it to see if it is getting warm when the car is sitting. It is always connected to the battery. Bad internal voltage regulator can drain the battery.

GM service guidelines for parasitic drain say 15ma or less for models up to the 2000 model year. A drain that large should be faily easy to find. The gen can do it as stated, you can listen closely to the gen when everything is off, most times you will hear a slight buzz if the reg is shorted. Common things, rear hatch motor not shutting off, stock radio can have a display problem which draws more current when its off. If you pulled all the fuses then suspect the generator. Usually with a shorted reg IC the gen will be full fielded meaning it will have LOTS of output when running, have you noticed a different charging curve? Remember to pull of both the plug and the rear lug off. The diode bridge can be leaky also and the only way to isolate it is to completely disconnect the gen.

you mean the alternator alternators always have been generators though, back in the day, one of the manufacturers wanted an "alternative" to their current generator. they changed a few things and called it an alternator. Alternative-Generator. Just a little food for thought.
yeah, check for drains across your battery too. Use a voltmeter with one lead on either off your posts and with the other, touch the plastic case all over the top. any voltage reading is surface discharge. use a baking soda/water mixture to clean your battery. it will neutralize the acid. dont pop off the caps and "pour" any in your battery. just be very carefull when cleanin under caps. power also is lost by acid between cells. not just from post to post.

Yup, you are right. GM even as far back as the early thirdgens always called them gens. I believe it was Motorola who first used the term alt. At one time they were a major supplier especially to, I think Chrysler.
