I just replaced a fuel pump on my 89Camaro RS. I now the fuel gauge reads full + 1/4" higher. It's never read that high before.
It's always been erratic but now I think it's gone for good.


I've found a couple of places but they want $400. I can get one from a junk yard for$75 but not sure how good that is.

I have found several at junkyards for $50.00 and this included tank, pump, and sending unit plus whatever gas was left in the tank. This will vary from place to place depending on how much value the owner wants to place on it. It might also be your guage that is going bad.

lol....nothing like some free gas! just make sure that stuff is not stale when you re-use it!

try checking the connections at the tank and check the resistance through the sender, it should change with a full and empty tank. THat will rule out the guage.

It went in the lawn mower with a little fresh gas. With 2 1/2 acres I need all the free gas I can get.

small motors get hurt more than bigger motors, so I've heard...you can smell it though, unmistakably nasty!

I used to work at a junkyard. My boss was a jerk. he wanted me to hand pump fuel out of old tanks.....he was always warning me..."don't suck up the bad gas!" "it will contaminate the entire tank!" sure enough.....I did what any $7/hr employee would do on a 105 degree summer day.......pump,pump,pump...pump it all!!

I'm not going to stop and purposely smell the gas each tank! That's retarded! Bad gas is very yellow too, you can see it sometimes.

Check the resistance of the sender to see if it is bad. 0 ohms should be empty and 90 ohms should be full. If you just replaced the pump it may just be a bad connection at the tank. A bad connection at the sender wire or ground would mean more then 90 ohms full and make the gage read high.
