my radio is making my stop/haz fuse blow

hey guys,

if you've been following my postings i've been posting like crazy about this problem, but now i've found the absolute cause of this problem: my new radio.

the radio in question is a kenwood KDC-205. i bought one of the lowest models because i didn't want this problem to happen, but it happened anyways. i wired it up with a GM wire harness and everything fit well except for the antenna lead in cable (big black wire with a needle at the end). i posted in the audio forum and they said to get a adaptor. before i got the adaptor i let the reciever's weight and mounting depth hold the wire into it's hole. i think this is where i went wrong and perhaps where my problem is coming from. can anyone shed some light on the situation?

Does the end of your antenna cable look like an RCA din jack and does the radio play without any problems. Good clear stations without any interference.

hey trickster,

the radio plays fine and there are no problems with the reception.

the cable is a thick, black wire with a tip at the end that looks like a blunt needle. almost like the end of an A/V cable but without the rubber shroud.

Do you have a power antenna? Also where do you have the power source for the radio coming from. Also, could this problem be related to your other recent problem with the audio alarm system and brake switch and hazard relay?

trickster,

Yes i do have a power antenna.

as for the power for the radio, i'm not sure exactly. what i did was i bought a GM wire harness, spliced the wires from the radio harness to the GM harness and plugged the GM harness into my original car harness ( aka the harness that plugged into my old radio). so it's basically how GM wired it to get power.

and also yes this is related to my audio alarm, but not the brake light and hazard relay. when the stop/haz fuse blows the seat belt warning light comes on when the brake pedal is not depressed, the audio alarm doesn't work, and my hazard lights don't work when i press the hazard button. i found the radio was the culprit when i removed the whole radio from the car and the fuse didn't blow anymore when i pressed the brake pedal (i also replaced the brake light switch, it wasn't the source of the problem).

Just for sh*t's and grins, drop the convenience panel fuse block down and look at the wire connections going into it. There is a fuse in there called the ARC fuse. There is also a fuse for the radio on the regular fuse block. Power for the power antenna relay comes from the ACC fuse. There is also a pink wire that goes from the radio harness to the power antenna relay. As I mentioned earlier, I would look at the wire connections in the back of the convenience panel fuse block.
