center-console lights not working

I have a -89 305tpi gta with manual transmission. There are two lights in the center console that don't light up. One is the light for the thing that shows you where the gears are(manual transmission) ...can't think of a good name for that, hope you know what I mean. And the other light is the one that should light up when you open the "cassette" compartment.

I've checked all the fuses that are located under the steeringwheel and they're okay... Now I'm thinking there might be some fuses somewhere else I don't know about. I've also tested the lightbubls and they work fine so I'm afraid it might be the wireing that's damaged somewhere and that's gonna be hard to fix! Hope it's just a fuse or something simple.

Now I know some of you probably wouldn't give a rats a** about a small problem like this, but it really bugs me and any help would be appreciated.

Thanx in advance!

Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
It could be that part of the wiring harness has become dis-connected. The light for the gearshift indicator should dim with your instrument cluster. The other bulb in the console compartment is turned on and off with a switch ooperated by opening and closing the armrest; the switch could be bad. If you have an ohmmeter, you can remove the switch and test it.. The only other thing might be a bad or broken ground wire. You can remove the shift plate/ashtray and check underneath it.

I have already opend the shift plate and checked the cables... although not very thoroughly, but I didn't see anything wrong. The switch for the armrest was disconnected but that might have happened while I removed the plate, I don't know. But I reconnected it, turned the key, and even toyed with the switch a bit, but still no sign of life. Where would the ground wire be located?

Camaro and firebirds interior

I think the interior of firebirds and camaros is quite different. So it doesn't supprise me if you don't have any bulb whatsoever. Unfortunately I don't have a pic.
