Correct Alternator Wiring?

I have an '87 GTA with a 350 TPI. I just dropped in a new 350 with a Mini-Ram.

I cant find a wire that should go to the back of the Alternator labled "BAT". I marked everything when removing the engine and accessories, and I dont recall any wire being attached to that location. There is only one wire harness going to the back of the Alternator.

Right now the Alternator is not charging my battery, so Im going to have it checked. Im just wondering if there should be a wire attached to this location "BAT" on the Alternator.

Any info or help would be appreciated before I go and buy a new Alternator.

There should be a black/red wire coming off the positive battery cable in addition to the black cable going to the starter solenoid. This cable will have a bulge in it with a smaller red or orange wire coming from it. The black/red wire goes to the post on the back of the alternator for charging the battery. The wire in this picture is the one I'm talking about even though it is not routed properly.
