A hatch release question not yet coverd (can it be true?)

I have searched and searched and have had no luck with this one. I am installing an alarm that also has a hatch release on my 92 v6 (not that it matters) Bird. Everything works great but the hatch release. All items that I can find lead me to connect to the black wire at the rear of the hatch release switch with a neg pulse. I have tried and it will not release. During the install I went so war as to cut the wire to make sure I had a good connection by striping wires rather than using a tap connecter. With the black wire cut the hatch will still open with the button on the dash. This leads me to believe that I may want to look at the other 3 wires. I have found that if you connect the brown and black wires (after removing the switch) the hatch will pop but I am unsure of what may happen if I just put a relay between the 2. If someone has a list of the 4 wires and were they go and an idea of the switch operation please post it so I can take a look. It is raining today so harder to spend time outside trying to trace wiring. Any other sug. Would be great

O the alarm is a chrimestoper 2000 III with the addition of a proximity sensor

a relay would work, just get a simple 12v relay, connect the 30 and 87 terminals to the brown and black wires( the ones that go to the switch) and then 1 of the coil terminals to a constant 12v source, other terminal to your hatch release output on your alarm, if it is a negitave output that is, if it is positive output, just swap it around, constant ground, pulsed positive

i have a convertible, so i didnt have a stock hatch (trunk really) release...

the one i got was from a car in the junkyard.. it had only one wire going to the 'noid.. and a short wire that let you ground the lock to the chassis..

when you hit the button, its just like if you turned the key.
