Lights/fuse problems?

i have an 84 t/a i bought not to long ago. the first day i went to put my headlights up they went up but when i went to put them back down the lights them selves would shut off but the actual headlight would not return to the down position. not only would the light not go down but the rear running lights would not go on and the lights behind my gauges would not work either. i found the fuse that controlled all of them. i put a new fuse in the lights went down and all of the others worked but when i went to put them down again the fuse just blew again. Does this sound like a ground or something?? If anyone can help that would be great it sucks not having light. Any advice at all would be greatly appriciated.thanks

you have a cut in one of the wires going to your headlight motors that is shorting out on something metal. when you turn the lights on the + goes to one wire and - to the other. when you shut them off it reverses.

In your case when you shut the lights off you are sending + straight to ground. check around the motors themselves, as there are moving parts there that could have wore the insullation off the wire. Just tape the problem area up and tie the wires away from any moving parts and you should be all set.

The easy way out would be to put a self reseting curcuit breaker in that fuse slot of the same amperage of the fuse. I would advise against that though cause sometimes they stay connected and can burn up a bunch of wiring.

good luck
