Testing Electrics

I have an 85 IROC TPI, and I got it with the intake system completely disassembled.
I'm just beginning work on it and it seems like a good place to start is with the electrical system basics.
I'd like to test the starter and fuel pump pressure. All the weatherpack connectors are unhooked at this time. Is there any reason I shouldn't connect the battery and turn the key to start with the intake off and all the connectors disconnected?

Thanks for any help

No reason you cant. Just make sure that the key is in he off position before you connect or disconnect anything. Another thing i would do before doing any extended cranking is to disconnect the injectors so you dont wash down the cylinder walls.
