Not necessarily a VATS issue. Does your security light come on and go out after 2 seconds, stay on, or not come on at all. When you say VATS, I assume you have the pellet in the key, correct.

I can't say because it hasn't really been determined what your problem is. You have told me that you have the pellet in the key, but what is the security light doing. I need more information than what you have given me.

If it does that then your problem is not a VATS issue. Check the starter enable relay mounted under the left kick panel. It will have two yellow wires, 1 green wire and 1 green/white wire.

No, the condition of the starter enable relay. With the kick panel off, turn the key to start and see if you can hear the relay click. If it doesn't then it is possible that the relay is bad. You could also have a bad ignition switch. I mentioned the wires so you would be able to identify the relay.

When you have these periods when the car won't start, does the starter click or do anything. Right now, I can say with certainty that VATS is not your problem. Have you looked at anything else, like maybe the pick-up coil, ignition module, ignition coil, distributor cap and rotor.
Maybe something that would cause heat soak on the starter?
