91 Firebird assistance
91 Firebird assistance
Need a little bit of help here.
My son picked up a 91 Firebird, 305/5 speed.
What are the 2 switch functions on the clutch?
Also, under the console is a connector going nowhere.
Would this have been for an auto equipped car?
Looks like someone had a field day doing a rube goldberg on an alarm installation.
Right now, we're looking at a limited amount of wiring diagram to figure why the brake indicator illuminates when you hit the hatch release switch.
Thanks in advance!

Hello AM Racer,
I will try to give you a little help here with that. The two switches on the clutch pedal are for the Clutch Start Switch and the Cruise control. I don't know what the wire colors on that connector are or how many wires there are in it. But on some firebirds, they came equipped with the wiring for both a manual and automatic transmission. Whichever one was not used was tucked up under the dash out of the way. The Rube Goldberg alarm system field day I don't even want to think about. My stock of tylenols is running low. The brake indicator comes on when you open the hatch because the hatch release is connected to the parking brake switch and the parking brake must be at the first detent for the hatch to release. A little long winded but I hope this helps.

Helped quite a bit. Had me stumped as to why the 2 switches instead of the common 1.
Nothing like previous owners playing mechanic. Said the a/c needed a charge. Sure thing. Right after installing the missing condenser!
SOmeone replaced the radiator since it had a cooling problem. When it didn't fix it, they dumped it. All it needed was to install the missing spring in the lower hose.
My son is on the hunt for some real wiring diagrams.
Guess he got a deal on the car despite the goofs. It's a plain Jane, no marking 91 with t tops, 305 and 5 speed.
