green wite w/ tracer??????
green wite w/ tracer??????
Hopefully the last wire to need a home.
It's on a 91 Firebird, 305.
On the right hand side is a green wire with a tracer. From what we could find is that it's the fan, but it's jumped and screwed to the body leaving the fan on.
Where is it supposed to attach? We've looked around the right head and block area but can't locate any sender ( switch ) to connect it to.
Thanks in advance!

What color is the tracer - white or black? And by 'right hand side', do you mean the driver side while looking under the hood?

Hi AM.
The fan switch is in the passenger side head between plugs 6 & 8. Whoever grounded it probably just didn't like the high turn-on temp, but he didn't wanna run a wire to a toggle inside the car to control it. Although, I supposed the switch could be bad, if it's even still there. If there's no switch, you'll probably find a threaded pipe plug.
If the switch is there, but there's no connector on it, it takes the same connector as the knock sensor(different colors, but still the same kind of connector), and you can still get that connector(or pigtail, if you like) from your dealer($15)--cheaper if you can find one at an auto parts store.

The tracer is the white strip running along the wire. Although I don't recall if the fan switch wire has that white stripe or not (I want to say that it does), it sounds like you guys are on the right track.

Ah, I never knew that stripe had a name, lol. But cool, so there's no point to my previous edit.
Thanks
Looks like my son located the spot now where it's supposed to go. Previous owner plugged it.
The cooling system was neglected badly by the previous owner. Radiator was replaced since it either plugged, blew or both.
We pulled the thermostat to check it and it was corroded through and hanging into the intake.
The lower hose was installed without the spring so as the rpm came up, the hose collapsed flat so I guess their last attwmpt to fix the cooling problem was to splice into the side of the wire and tie it to the fenderwell.
