No Rear Turn Signals

I went to have my car inspected today, to find that neither rear turn signal work. I tore into the cargo area, found that the bulbs were good...the turn indicators on the dash never acted like anything was not working. I'm thinking there's a wire loose somewhere...anyone have a common experience?

Thanks for your ideas.

Tail Lights

Hi Charlz B.,
Do you use the steering tilt often? I had a problem once in which the stop lights would not turn on when pressing the brake pedal and turned out to be a broken cable that runs underneath the steering column on the pivoting point. Since the signal lights work simultaneously with the brake lights, the cable that exits the brake switch on the pedal enters the steering column and reaches the signaling level. From there it then exits to the tail lights. Look for the wires that are protected with a black plastic sleeve. Seems that your problem is there, the signaling level is probabbly functioning right but the signal never gets to reach the tail lights cause of a broken wire in that point. Just test the wires for continuity on that area. Hope you solve that gremlin soon!

Well, I found that a wiring harness had worked itself loose over years and years. It was a fairly good size one, under the steering column. When I plugged it up, the tail lights worked, but now the left turn indicator on the dash will not light up. Also, when I was out driving this morning, the right turn signal flashed quickly but only intermittently, like a bulb or wire was loose.

I dunno, I can't keep up with all the problems this car keeps giving me...just one or two at a time please!
