oil pressure gauge peged

Would this imply I have an open or a short?

Open.. see if the wire fell off (back of intake, next to the dist., drivers side).

Yes, as far as I know, that's true for all 3rdgens and any GM gauge down to 1971 (oldest GM I've worked on).

yes, with the exception that the sender on a 89 is down just above the oil filter

if thats not it try replacing the sending unit mine went slowly to zero as the engine heated up and i got scred and wouldnt drive it so one day i replaced the sending unit and found out that was my problem lol its worth a try
