First, you need to check the fuel pump fuse in your fuse block, Sounds like you've lost the connection from your ign. to relay.
You have already checked the pump and it works, so I can only assume you haven't checked the fuse yet. You need to do that first whenever you have an elect. problem. Saves alot of money too!

all the fuses seem, to be ok in the block, do you no which one exatcly is the fuel pump fuse?
also, what is the relay by the battery, its mounted just to the side of the battery, near the radiator......this seems to have a melted, connector on it... if that is n e thing?

The fuel pump relay is not connected to ignition power. The relay switch has power on it at the orange wire. That orange wire goes to the battery and to the 20 amp fuse near the battery.
With the key ON, the relay only closes the switch for a few seconds. So, if you have the key ON and the engine not running, then you will not notice power on the wire going to the fuel pump. If the motor is running, you should always have power on that wire.
There have been so many posts recently related to fuel pump issues that all the info you need is available in some of the recent posts.

There is a small inline fuse/holder up by the battery/coolant overflow resevoir. Should be attached to the fender...

Yeah, I figured it was the fuse but I thought it was in the fuse block. Fotunatly, I've never had one go out on me but I've heard it happen to others. Glad you got it fixed! You say you replaced the sending unit and now your gas gauge works? Isn't it in the tank? I'm confused! Surely you didn't drop the tank and not change the fuel pump!

That's what I wanted to hear! I put one (an access door) in mine last year and it only took a couple of hours! Better keep an extra fuse in the console though, just in case, so you won't get stranded!! Maybe the fuse was just old and ready to go because it's been in there since the car was new! One thing though, I know where the fuse is now because of your problem. I have two things left to fix on mine, the cruise and the left headlight. I've already fixed the headlight door on the pass. side and tonight the drivers side gave me a bunch of crap going up! The last one cost me $75.00 to fix when I finally found one at a bone yard 15 mi. from here. Their getting hard to find used, and the last one was out of an 84. Had to splice a 3 wire into 2 to get it to work.
It took me most of the night to figure that one out on my own!
