Grease or oil in the headlight motor??

I just took apart the drivers side headlight motor. Everything looks A-OK besides the fact that its almost totally dry in there. What specific type of grease or oil should I use in there to see if I can get it running again?

Get a quality dielectric silicone grease.
GM sells a small squeeze tube that would work great.

. n/m .. I was thinking you were talking about the gears and not the motor itself...

I recommend white lithium grease. It is also what I supply in my headlight repair kits. I'm surprised you didn't find the original gel inserts (located between the large nylon gear and the cast 3-lobe cam) had crumbled to a spoonfull of chunks. Did you pull the gear free from the hub? Take a look at the instructions that I include with my TDS 209280 Deluxe headlight repar kit. You need to lube the inside cavity that contains three bushings, the OD of the nylon gear and the worm gear of the motor shaft.

Thanks for the replies guys. I messed around with them for an entire day on Wednesday and have concluded that the motors are both junk. The headlight motor module on the firewall was bad so I figure they have been pointing up for quite a while and everything has pretty much seized up. I know there is a '91 Firebird that just went into the local junkyard with good motors that the guy said I could have the pair for $20. Off to the junkyard!
