so what happened?
to my computer? Here was the scenario, i was removing some dash components when a connector for a small black box on the passenger side of the car, moved over and contacted my computer, being as i was incredibly stupid the damn thing sparked because the battery wasn't disconnected, was a big ole' spark that scared me to death. Well, i no longer have a SES light, nor anything else from the ALDL terminal, i can't manually lock up my torque convertor from it, nor can i read engine codes, even w/ a scanner (which uses it's own light bulb, taking the SES problem out of the dash. So what the heck would have happened to my computer? I'd assume it would have blown a fuse before it melted any wires, is the prom damaged (the car will run) or is the comp. ruined, or did something else get ruined instead and i'll be hunting for a problem for the rest of my life? Thanks in advance.

Here's my WAG:
When you shorted power to the ECM's case you probably burned up the ground wires to the ECM. They're only like 16-18ga so they'll fry pretty easily. Use a testlight to check your grounds...if one of them is bad that can cause the issues you describe.
If the grounds are good you probably torched the ECM itself.

alright sounds like a good start....if the ecm got burned up, what's the likelyhood that the car would start and run? Just that i'm having problems with say the stupid ALDL terminal? Maybe i'll be under the dash tonight checking grounds, anything specific (any one ground, or grounds) i should be looking at? And, would this most likely have been grounds to the components of the car, or, grounds coming from the engine compartment? Lets keep the ideas rollin.
