Headlight door problem on a 88 GTA
I have a problem with my headlight doors going up and down. They go up but not all the way and it is very slow. Same with going down. Also the motors keep running about 5 seconds after they are either up all the way or down. Would this be from a bad headlamp door module? I've seen where others have had this problem but it's been for a different year of cars. I've seen that '87-'89 Firebirds are the same according to the wiring schematic. I'm also not able to raise or lower the doors with the ***** that are for that function. Also if it is the module where do I find one besides the dealer? I've checked other auto stores and can't find any. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had to get this same module once before, check your local yards-I found one within a half-dozen phone calls.. I decided to get a spare, your local Pontiac dealer can still get them for a couple days pay.. See 'em on EBAY regularly, also www.car-parts.com

It sounds like the OEM gel bushings inside the headlight actuators are bad. It is a simple and cheap repair using my headlight repair kit(s).

Thank you to both of you guys. Thanks for the help. I'll check out your website lonsal. I'll also check the junk yards.

Just adding reinforcement.
Listen to Lon. His repair kit is the only thing you'll need.
Your relay module is fine or it wouldn't run the motors like it does. You gave a perfect description for bad actuator bushings. Get his repair kit, rebuild your own actuators(saving you a trip to the junkyard for actuators that might not be any better than yours, also saving you big bucks for new ones), and yours will work like they're brand new.
And to get your headlights up in the mean time, pull them up with one hand while you're turning the **** with the other. That worked for me until I repaired mine.
