I would like to install an overhead console in my 82 camaro.I have the console,mounting screws and the harness that runs along the windshield down behind the dash.My question is how does this wire up.My regular dome light only has 2 wires.white and orange.the console harness has 4.black,orange,pink and pink/white.i know the black is ground and i figure the orange is hot but what about the 2 pink wires?I also have another overhead harness that only has 3 wires.black,white and orange.Any help would be appreciated

 

I've never seen or heard of one with pink wires...
The ones I had both had the three wires; black was ground to the roof support, orange was 12V, and the white one goes to the pin switch in the door jamb to turn on the dome light when you open the door.
The white and orange wires should already be in use for your existing dome light.

 

Most of the harnesses I find all have the 4 wire combo.I only have seen one with the 3 wires.Can i just splice the orange and white wires in to the existing wiring?Is that all you need to do to make the console work?

 

If there are just 3 wires in the connector attached to the OH console, I don't see why not.
Just remember that the orange wire is hot all the time, so you may want to full the CTSY fuse before working on it.

 

i forget but i believe the 4th wire (purple from what ive seen) is just wired so when you hit the dome light button, it has the same effect as opening your door, all the lights come on
