Generally the heavier gauge wire from tha alt. harness plug goes to the primary lug on the starter with the other wires and the + batt. cable.

Well you didn't specify the vehicle and there seems to be a fusible link there with a smaller wire coming out of it. That wire goes to the positive terminal of the battery and looks like someone has replaced the terminal lug at some point in time. BTW, that should be an 8 guage wire there.

that pic isnt mine...and i have a wire that goes from the positive side of battery to the back of the alternator. but the plug that goes into the alternator. a wire comes out of it about 4 inches long with an eye on it. is it ground? Its an 85, but not the original engine, its a carb motor.

sometimes my brain doesn't work like it should so i didn't quite understand what you were saying in your first post.
that wire goes to the same post on the back of the alternator as the wire coming from battery postive does.

sorry for the over sized pic.

does it matter which goes first on the post, battery or the plug thingy? or just stick it on there and tighten it?
