Headlight switch apart

I bought a replacement head light switch as I suspect that my one is stuffed. Anyway the replacement is identical except it does not have the TAB for the groub wire to plug into.

I wanted to transfer the case from the old one to the new one. I took apart the old switch and right away I knew that this would be a bad idea. The spring inside the switch is an absolute PITA to get back in.

I think I might leave the new alone and just tap into the groud wire on the connector and screw it into the head light switch frame.

Just curious if anyone has ever taken one of these apart and got it back together again?

Is there any test I can perfom on the switch to determine that it is in fact the switch? Otherwise it might be a ground problem somewhere.

Lights are on dash I have an 86 Camaro. The problem was that all my gauge cluster lights were blinking, the gauges were bouncing up and down, basically the interior was going nuts when the headlights were on. Even with them off the RPM gauge kind of pulsated when indicating. I noticed that when I turn the Headlight switch (dimmer) that it did have an effect how the problem was happening. So i bought a new switch for it have not yet put it in. See if it helps the problem.

I just wanted to check the old switch if there is a way? I guess I will find out when the new switch is in place and the porblem goes away or if it still will be here.
