tach is off at low r's but not at high

tach is off at low r's but not at high
i have a 1991 rs W/ 305 and my factory tach displays less than 500 rpm at idle while my auto meeter displays 850ish but when i revv it up they start to even out at 5000 they are displaing the same not shure what is going on here

the stock tachs are almost always off in these cars your not the only one .....they just arent very accurate
