Total security system for VATS, and others..
Hi, i was reading a lot about how to make your car stay parked where you want it to. So I came up with a simple and cheap system that will work good.
First its mainly for VATS people but other can do it as well.
Go to your autoparts store and buy a cheap bulldog alarm (the cheaper the better actually). Install it to your batery and make it pretty sensitive to hit noises.
The only reason you buy the cheapest one is because it wont necesseraly turn on when the lightbulb is lit in the car, but it will start when the ignition is turned on. Its a bit to late to cut the alarm when the ignition is on. And if the thief pops the hood and cuts the alarm somebody is bound to see him do that.
Also, if you have VATS wire up a switch to the purple wire under the tranny console. It's an easy hook up and putting a 20amp or 30amp switch (just to be secure) will do the trick. Now even if the thief gets the right key he will think that he got the wrong one. Clever.
If he happens to bypass the vats switch you wire the tan w/white wire (your fuel pump wire) to another switch which you can hide pretty good. Than they start it and think that they are scott free, but in 6-10 secs. the car dies and they are ****ed.
Pretty funny stuff.
This is what I think would work very effectively especially if you have VATS.
Give me some feedback, since I am still in process of putting the two switches in, but I need some help on how many amps I would need to run the wires thrugh them without a short. 30 amps should be fine, but I really need an answer from somebody who knows.
Thell me what you think of this set up, and write yours as well.

Vats will thwart pretty much every amature theif. Look how many people on this site have had their column completly destroyed but theyre car never moved an inch. A well hidden ignition cutoff switch will do a good job against an advanced theif. The one you have to worry about is the pro with a tow truck.

What about having "The Club"?
I know nothing will deter a determined thief and with a convertible, I just leave the damn car open all the time (with no valuables inside). I bought the club for piece of mind is all.

Well, what I was aming for is that the thieves know how to bypass the vats system. Giving them the run for their money a neutral switch (that makes car believe thats in gear) will make the thief think that he has the wrong vats key (if he has the keyes), although he has the right one. Also, if he finds out about it, the fuel pump switch will totally get him after he thinks he is scot free. What do you think???
Also, how do you prevent your car from getting picked up by a tow truck. I know its a far fetched question, but is it possible???
I can park it so it cant be picked up by a towtruck.. (i guess I answered my question!!!).
Does anyone know how many amps would be enough for the neutral switch as well as the fuel pump cut off switch. Assuming that I have an inline fuse.
Thanks

Alright!! Thanks.
Tomorow I am installing the switches, and its totally gonna **** up the thief if he tires anything.
I own a pro/am and I am sure u heard of them, and they are pretty damn rare, so i want to keep mine to myself.
Thanks.
What do you guys think about the VATS and neutral switch trick. It would trick them into believeing that they are using a wrong key!?!?!. Than if, and its a big IF, they find out the switch, the fuel pump cut off switch will let them enjoy the succes for a very short time, which is enough to get busted and screwed.
HEHEHEHEHEHE.
Theives come on in.

Hey, they can trash it, but just hope that I dont come along. Cuz, if I see a bastard in my car ****ing around I will destroy him. Some bastards broke the window of my parents's corolla twice infront of our house. So I installed a little alarm, and if they do it next I will jump into my third gen (all naked) and chase their asses down. Thand I will ram them on the rear so they spin out. Than I will continue to anihilate them with my basebal bat. First the knees, and when they are all in pain, I will destroy thier car. Than I will call the cops and bail.
Lets see how they like that?!?!

People dont realize how crazy most of the thirdgen owners are.
There should be a sticker on the back of our cars.
"Dont **** with 3rd gen owner"
And the rest of the cars should say
"I messed with a 3rd gen Firebird, so now I have two a55holes."

You need to do a search for car alarm systems from south africa. Then you wont have to run your naked *** around town trying to kick some ***.

That is a good idea, but in this crazy country of ours, the thief can sue you if he got hurt while stealing your car. What the **** is up with that?
Here is the link to whomever is interested in the south african way of sending the thief running away.

I installed my switch to the fuel pump and it works great. Now I have a little bit more freedom to park since the switch is well hidden.
Thanks for all your help

Hehehehehe
Fire, fire, firebird.
Just imagine waking up in the morining and going to your car only to see smoke and a burned thief in the drivers seat. That would be awsome.
Anyway, does anybody know how long could a thief take to bypass the VATS system without a key?
Do you know of how long do thieves stay in the car, and about what time do they give up?? On average!!

Cool.
How about them trying to bypass the system by wiring it up. I heard that you can wire the vats system so it starts up.
I am not sure that thats the right terminology but I am sure you know what am talking about.
Thanks
You guys are great.

Theres one wire from the vats module to the ecm. If you simulate a signal on that line that says start the car, vats is pretty much disabbled.

Well, I have the switch and about 2000 under the hood maybe even more. So, I feel a lot more safe when I turn that switch on and nobody can start the car. I feel a lot safer to park it in shady spots. If thieves knew that we spend a lot of money on third gens they would steel them.
What I do to my car is still have a bra, buts it a bit beat up, and I took off one of the covers for my light, just so it looks like I dont pay much attention to it. Boy, is that wrong.

Hehe 2k under the hood thats funny. Its not uncommon for some newer engines to be in the 10-40k range.
Best bet would be to avoid these spots all together. The chance of a smash and grab or amature destroying your interior trying to steal it are to high.

Hey, 2k, but everything is replaced and new. I am just a poor college student trying to the best with least. So 2k is more like 10k for me.
Sometimes, especially if the bird is a daily driver, you will have to park in a shady spot. So, I'd rather feel safe than sorry.
Today I forgot I had the switch engaged and tried to start the car. It started but died in like 2sec. I was happy. Now I am onto getting a new front bumper and saving money for a pontiac 400 engine. The ones that came earlier second gens. The core is about 1145 bucks. If that doesnt work out, I'll probably go for a 350 with a good cam since than I can keep all of my new stuff.
I also though of making 300hp with my LO3. What do you guys think???

I know this is going off topic, but I already found a motor for cheap, its a re-built motor, and they sell it for about 1245, its a 350 however I do have to ship my engine to them. So, I might have to slave away with a 305 TBI intake for the time being.
However, what kind of change do I need to do electircally, and or with the chip??

Yo, dunkhound what have you done to your 305 TBI? Any suggestions as to what might be cheaper and effective. I was thinking on getting new headers and a short block with an LT1 cam or even something more wild. How much horses would the header/ cam option raise.
This is the last post I will put on this board, since it went way out of subject. I will probably start a new one on the TBI, board. So, if any of you would like to help just check that board out.
Thanks.

they usually cut the steering wheel and bend it away then the cub comes right off. its so much quicker than trying to hack a steel bar. seen many of these in my years towing stolen cars to the impound yard club in back seat and wheel cut.
the better one locks the brake pedal to the floor. don;t know the name of it. but there is no way to cut through that steel on the pedal or the lock it would take way to long so they just move on.
